Cecilia Charlton

Introducing Cecilia

Through my paintings, I transform the real world, suspending time and sound, and offer a meditation on dualities: individuality/ homogeneity of the person, contemporary/archaic thought processes, and real/digital space. In art, as in life, contradictions enable subjectivity and promote personal inquiry—it is this effect that I wish to exercise in an effort to promote independent thought. I was born in the US and recently relocated to London, UK. Currently, I am currently working in the mediums of paint and textiles.

What we love about Cecilia

These abstract works burst with color, straight lines, organic forms and architectural planes. Often highly structured with adroit accuracy, but sometimes whimsical, her acrylic pieces take a hard line on her genre of “reductive scientific surrealism”. “Dragon” is part of her exploration between what’s abstract and real. Whereas “p-2017-02-02” is mesmerizing with its curved focal form and patterned core.
